U.S. Rep. Quigley enlists Pritzker for re-election fundraiser – Crain’s Chicago Business

Mike Quigley probably has as safe a seat in Congress as any Illinois incumbent, but it pays to never assume anything in politics these days—not when you’re a relative moderate at a time when the political left is flexing its muscle.

The Chicago Democrat is holding a lunchtime fundraiser starring Gov. J.B. Pritzker today. Sources say the event is expected to bring in about $50,000 or Quigley’s re-election campaign. At the moment the congressman has only one re-election foe, progressive Brian Burns.

Quigley has signed up some big names to co-chair his campaign, including Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi, former Mayor Rahm Emanuel, state Rep. Ann Williams and Ald. Gil Villegas, 36th, who’s Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s City Council floor leader. That’s an interesting mix of progressive reformers and moderates.

Team Quigley also has been scouring Burns’ record pretty hard, leading to some negative publicity a few days ago about an ill-advised Burns tweet from 2011. And the incumbent has been making the media rounds with series of interviews.

What’s next? Quigley, who serves on the House Intelligence Committee, hasn’t yet gotten into a public verbal battle with President Donald Trump. But you never know.
