Gov. JB Pritzker signed a bill aimed at implementing stronger remedies to combat sexual harassment and discrimination in work places.

The measure requires hotels and casinos to adopt anti-sexual harassment policies to improve workplace safety for employees, and clarifies the ethics investigation process for more transparency, according to a news release.

Several local state legislators, including Sens. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, Michael Hastings, Pat McGuire and Sue Rezin and Reps. Mark Batinick, John Connor, Natalie Manley, Margo McDermed and David Welter back the bill, dubbed S.B. 75.

"This bill is a necessary addition to our arsenal and a step forward in making workplaces across our state a better and safer place to work for every employee," Batinick said in a statement.

The legislation also requires safety devices, like panic buttons, be available to employees. Retaliation against employees using a panic button is prohibited.

"This monumental legislation is helping shift the culture in the workplace," Bertino-Tarrant said. "I’m proud to join my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to institute new laws that strive to make Illinois a better place to work, live and grow."

The bill passed unanimously in the Illinois House of Representatives on the last day of the legislative session.
