A letter signed by all the U.S. senators and representatives from Illinois asks the Federal Emergency Management Agency to give the state more time to assess damage from flooding events from February through July.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker put in a request for an extension for its preliminary damage assessment. In their letter, the senators and representatives asked Acting FEMA Administrator Peter Gaynor to support that request.

“A flood of this duration had not been seen in Illinois since the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927, and at least 35% of the state’s counties were affected and declared a disaster by Governor Pritzker this year,” the letter says. “Farmers in Illinois have experienced serious delays with completing the planting of their crops.”
