Former Illinois House Representative and gubernatorial candidate Jeanne Ives filed her statement of candidacy on Thursday to run for Congress in 2020 to unseat 6th Congressional District Rep. Sean Casten.

In her statement, Ives – a West Point graduate who served in the U.S. Army from 1987 to 1993 – designated Jeanne for Congress as her principal campaign committee.

Ives was narrowly defeated in her bid for governor by former Gov. Bruce Rauner in the 2018 Republican primary. She carried every collar county except for Lake County in the election.

She will be running against former Illinois Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti – who announced her candidacy in April – in the 2020 primary. Both formerly served as Wheaton City Council members.

The 6th Congressional district stretches from Crystal Lake to Darien and covers portions of DuPage, Lake, Kane, McHenry and Cook counties.
