U.S Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Naperville, has announced an official bid for re-election

“With your help over the past year, we’ve improved health care, taken steps to fight climate change, and invested more in our working-class families,” she said in a social media statement Saturday. “We’ve passed legislation that is making life better for our community. And I’m not ready to stop there.”

Underwood represents Illinois 14th Congressional District, which includes portions of McHenry County. She defeated Randy Hultgren in the 2018 election. Hultgren is a Republican and had been in office for four terms. Multiple challengers already have announced intentions to run against Underwood in 2020.

“I’m ready to continue taking courageous steps in defending our community and being a partner in bringing our voices to Washington,'” she wrote. “I’m representing you and that is the biggest honor of my life.”
