Fairfield preacher’s prayer turns political at Illinois State Capitol
ILLINOIS (WEHT) – A local preacher’s prayer turned political at the Illinois State Capitol.
It happened Friday as Illinois lawmakers raced to finish a landmark session.
State Representative Darren Bailey invited Fairfield Pastor Corey Musgrave to lead the House’s daily prayer.
Bailey’s district covers a large section of southeastern Illinois.
In prayer, Musgrave thanked his maker for the abundance of resources in the south and the industrial capacity in the north.
Musgrave’s pivoted and pleaded with God to judge Illinois after the House passed an abortion rights bill.
"I ask you to rise up, oh God, and judge Illinois for the sanctioned destruction of the innocent unborn. For when Your judgments are in this state, the inhabitants of Illinois learn righteousness. In this House I pray for justice to roll down like water and righteousness like a mighty river."
Democratic Governor JB Pritzker has vowed to sign the Abortion Rights Bill into law.
Pastor Musgrave will share his thoughts on the prayer Wednesday on Eyewitness News.
