LETTER: Madigan is a supporter of labor

The problems in Illinois cannot be laid directly on the door step of one politician. Michael Madigan has been criticized and criminalized by too many in this state.

If it weren’t for politicians like Michael Madigan, Bruce Rauner would have run roughshod over this state with his anti-worker agenda. Rauner has tried several strategies to break unions in this state by unconstitutionally taking away their rights to ban together to collectively bargain a contract for wages, benefits and working conditions with their employers. Unsuccessfully, I might add.

When J.B. Pritzker wins this election in November, we will have a team of state politicians that believe in, and will work toward, worker’s rights and set policies to reflect that. That will set our state as an example to all states around us — that right-to-work policies and the misguided ones that support it, like Bruce Rauner, Scott Walker, Donald Trump and the Koch brothers — that Illinois still believes in working families.

If voters in this state would only educate themselves on J.B.’s proposed tax policy, they would realize that his goal is to equalize taxes to make richer citizens pay a fairer share and give some relief to the middle and lower wage earners.

Is that raising taxes? For some, like himself and Bruce Rauner, it is. This is why we hear GOP candidates talk about the Chicago machine raising taxes. That’s them supporting those that support them, big business and the wealthy. Not most of us Illinoisans.

Bless politicians like Michael Madigan and J.B. Pritzker that have strong convictions to do what’s right for Illinois.
